Section 19 Permit requirements

Strachur District Community Minibus is operated under a Section 19 Permit.

Organisations or individuals hiring the bus are prohibited from using the bus for commercial purposes. There must be no fare charged. Drivers may not be paid.

The minibus cannot be hired for activities which are profit making.

Driving license requirements

The driving licence requirements for driving the minibus are:-

Either:The driver must hold a full United Kingdom driving licence to drive a car issued before 1st January 1997. This will include D1 vehicles, as shown in the image below.

Or: If the driving licence was issued after 1st January 1997 then, to drive a minibus, the driver must obtain a Category D1 driving licence by passing a medical assessment plus a theory and practical test.

Additional requirements for driving the minibus are

  • The driver must provide his/her services on a voluntary basis
  • The vehicle is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body, but not for hire or reward
  • In law the driver must be aged 21 or over, but our insurance requires the driver to be 30-75 years old.
  • The driver must have held a full driving licence (Category B) for at least 2 years
