Local History Society Victory over Japan Day
Location: Strachur Memorial Hall
Our Commemoration on 16th August 2025 of 80 years since the end of WW2 is shaping up to be a great event. We will now have displays in both the Memorial Hall and Heron Hall and are hoping for a large turnout.
Door will open to the public at 11am and the event will be formally opened at 1.30pm by Depute Lord Lieutenant, Lieutenant Colonel Peter McDill who will also introduce Peter Smith. 106 year old Peter, an ex-Glenbranter resident was a POW and his son Graeme has written a book about his father’s experiences, which will be available to buy on the day. Peter will be on hand to sign copies and members of KOSB, Peter’s regiment hope to visit.
About 2.45 the Hub choir will perform and of course there will be lots of displays and memorabilia as well as a replica sitting room and interesting information about the training and exercises which took place both here and in various other areas in upper Loch Fyne.
For anyone who can’t manage on Saturday 16th, you are welcome to come along on the Friday evening from 6pm – 7pm for a preview of the exhibition. You will be unable to see everything which will be on offer but there would be items in the Memorial Hall which you might find of interest.
We look forward to welcoming you.
